The Accessible Marketing Charter

Ten promises. Free to sign. Marketing that works for everyone.

Any company, charity or council can sign. Show your customers, clients and team that your marketing includes the 1 in 4 people in the UK who are disabled.

Why it matters

A quarter of your customers

1 in 4 people in the UK are disabled. When captions, readable text or keyboard access are missing, they don’t complain. They just go elsewhere.

The law is catching up

The Equality Act and the European Accessibility Act expect accessible digital services. More tenders now ask how accessible your work is.

Easier to find

Search engines and AI tools read the same things screen readers do: headings, alt text, captions and plain language.

The ten promises

You don’t need to be perfect to sign. You’re promising to work towards these, and to show your progress.

  1. Promise 1: We design for disabled people from the brief, not as an afterthought.
  2. Promise 2: We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 AA as a minimum on everything we build.
  3. Promise 3: We write in plain, clear language.
  4. Promise 4: We caption, transcribe and add alt text to every video and image.
  5. Promise 5: We never rely on colour, sound or motion alone.
  6. Promise 6: We keep people with disabilities in mind when designing and producing our work.
  7. Promise 7: We make our own hiring and workplace accessible and neuroinclusive.
  8. Promise 8: We train our whole team in accessibility every year.
  9. Promise 9: We don’t sell overlays as a fix, and we publish an accessibility statement.
  10. Promise 10: We report our progress publicly each year.

Questions

Is it really free?

Yes. The Charter is free for every company, charity and council, and always will be.

Do we have to meet all ten promises already?

No. Signing means you’re committed to working towards them. The yearly check-in is a chance to show what’s improved.

Can sole traders and small charities sign?

Yes. Any size of company, charity or council can sign.

What happens to our details?

We use them to add you to the wall and send you Charter emails. You can unsubscribe at any time. See our privacy policy.
